Fire Blight in Grande Prairie
Fire Blight Disease (also Fireblight) is a common problem around Grande Prairie that affects Apple and Crabapple trees, as well as Hawthorn, Mountain Ash and Pear.
Fire Blight is a bacterial disease that infects the tree causing limbs to look scorched and die back. It is contagious, and can spread during periods of rain and wet weather, or through unsanitary removal and disposal.
A recent outbreak of fire blight in Grande Prairie has infected an estimated 15-20% of susceptible trees on public lands, and the infection rates are expected to be even higher on private lands.
